Weekend Getaway in Savannah

I may be a bit late sharing our weekend getaway in Savannah. But we are still in our 10th year of marriage, so it’s ok! Better late than never right? For our 10 year anniversary, we knew we wanted to do something a little extra. We also knew that we wanted to go childless for whatever we ended up doing. We hadn’t been on any type of vacation alone together since our honeymoon in Puerto Rico. When searching for places within driving distance and was close to a beach we landed on Savannah. Neither of us had been there before so it sounded like the perfect destination for a quick weekend away.

Day 1 – April 16 – Our Anniversary

Our first stop was Forsyth Park. If you do any research on Savannah you will see it is a big go-to for tourists and locals. It is very popular for engagement sessions. So I just had to go check it out and it was everything I imagined. There were beautifully built homes surrounding the park (The green one was my favorite). The park had gorgeous landscaping with giant trees that were draped with Spanish moss. Also, a beautiful fountain right in the middle.

After the park, we headed to the Savannah Historic District for dinner. We ended up at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. I had the most amazing stuffed chicken breast and Brandon got a steak, oscar style. The meal did not disappoint. After dinner, we did just a little walking around and seeing the neighborhood. But we were tired so we headed back around 10 so we could get to bed and be able to have an early start to Day 2.

Day 2 – Tybee Island & a Ghost Tour

On our second day in Savannah, I had a lot planned for us. We started off bright and early got a quick breakfast and then headed out to Tybee Island. Tybee Island is about a 30-minute drive from Savannah. If you are a Nikolas Sparks fan, this is where they filmed parts of The Last Song. When we got there we headed straight to the beach. It was hot out but the water was way too cold to be in it. So we spent a good amount of time walking the beach. We even found a cute wooden swing on the beach and spent some time just watching the waves (because obviously, that is what you do as an old married couple with 3 kids). We did spend a little time calling the boys, who were spending their weekend with the grandparents.

After calling the boys we stopped at Sting Rays for lunch. We shared a platter and it was more than enough for the 2 of us. If you are looking for somewhere on the island to eat we highly recommend them. The food was sooo good and so was the drinks, my favorite was the frozen mango sunrise.

In the evening we headed down to the waterfront while we waited on our tour to start. We visited all the little shops. Went down to the river for a quick photo as we watched the boats pass and then got dessert from a restaurant as we were still pretty full from lunch. Then we headed off for our ghost tour!!

Savannah Ghost Tour

To say I was excited is an understatement. If you know me, you know I LOVE everything paranormal. So to go hunting for ghosts was beyond exciting. Savannah is known to be one of the most haunted placed in the U.S. so I had high hopes of actually seeing something. We had a really great tour guide. He was an amazing story tell and told us both the stories behind the “ghosts” as well as the history of the different locations in Savannah. Needless to say we had a blast and would totally do a tour again. If you go we recommend using Ghost City Tours, we chose the Beyond Good & Evil tour. On this tour we got to see the Mercer-Williams house, 432 Abercorn and the cemetery, just to name a few locations. Did we see any ghosts? Maybe? (I’ll let you be the judge, we accidently deleted all the pictures except for this one with the orb on my arm). We did have a blast and a great experience which is what mattered the most!

Day 3 – Our Last Day

The last day of the trip we went to Wormsloe. It has a very long, beautiful, tree-lined driveway. The property was pretty but kinda a snooze. It was not at all what I imagined. I wouldn’t recommend going here if you are on a short trip. But if you have more time to spend in Savannah, then I would work it in. It was still lovely, but you don’t get to the house which was kinda a letdown.

After an afternoon of shopping in the historic district, we finished the even back on the beach on Tybee Island. I really wanted to see the sunset and I am so glad I made us go back out for it. It was the perfect ending to our weekend getaway in Savannah.
